The Benefits of Following a Pescatarian Diet, As Per Tatted Swerve

Plant-based diets have attained immense popularity in recent years, with vegan salads popping up on café menus. But while you may be most accustomed to a vegetarian or vegan diet, there’s another choice for those who want to consume more plant-based while still getting a fair portion of animal protein: the pescatarian diet. Other than being more flexible compared to other plant-based diets, a pescatarian diet offers benefits that can be experienced in the long run, believes Tatted Swerve, who swears by this new lifestyle.

It’s high in fiber

The pescatarian diet comprises foods rich in nutrients, such as whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. Moreover, these healthy fats and proteins are essential for feeling content, and a lot of nutrients found in fish can lessen cravings as well, says Tatted Swerve. He further adds that the combination of these foods can help boost metabolism and support gut health, thereby reducing LDL cholesterol levels linked with heart diseases.

Keeps diabetes in control

Metabolic syndrome consists of conditions such as obesity and insulin resistance. Swerve points out that the presence of omega-3 in fatty fish can help reduce inflammation, which can otherwise be caused by plant-based diets if practiced solely. Swerve also shares that the omega-3 content from fish strengthens healthy brain development in infants as well as children.

Higher nutritional value

Since pescatarian diets contain fish, eggs, low-fat dairy foods, and plant-based foods, the nutritional quality is often better and higher than diets that include meat, explains Swerve. “Having been on a pescatarian diet for a long time now, I have never faced a calcium deficiency since the intake is very balanced. Besides, this lifestyle has helped me limit my consumption of unhealthy fats and sodium, which has left a positive impact on my overall health,” he reveals.

Sustainable option

Swerve believes many people follow a pescatarian diet owing to its positive impact on the environment. However, he suggests that it’s healthier and even more sustainable if the fish consumed is ethically farmed. He further explains, “There are countless environmental repercussions when we talk about eating meat, caused due to raising and processing meat or utilizing resources needed for it, from land to energy. By eliminating our dependence on meat and opting for sustainable fish choices, we call to create a better planet.”

That said, for people looking to up their plant intake, a pescatarian diet could be a great option, Swerve opines. He recommends this diet to anyone who would like to adopt a well-balanced, plant-based, and more wholesome eating style.
