Father and Son
Legend Kangol Kid and his youngest Yusuke Vacant.
A bond that will never be broken. Never would have imagined in a million years that I would interview a father (a legend )in hip hop and then run into his son years later as he performed at a friends event and interview him as well. I met Kangol Kid from UTFO a few years ago at First Love Volume 1 that I was blessed to be the only media to cover that event. Kangol Kid was the host and it featured so many 90s R&B Legends: Riff, Shai,Allure, Norm &Julia and Christopher Williams. Interviewing Kangol Kid was so surreal and I had no idea a few years later we would lose him to his battle with cancer in December 2021.

As he was slowly losing his battle I was watching all the videos and documentaries of his journey as a 15 year old breakdancer who danced with Doctor Ice since young. Being dancers on Whodini Tour with Jermaine Dupri and dancing on Soul Train and other popular tv shows back in the day. To being with Full Force and creating the craze that would become Roxanne Roxanne Mania from Roxanne to the Real Roxanne to Roxanne’s Revenge. All the accomplishments he completed and to interview him at SOBs(NYC)was classic. He was also the first rapper to be endorse and be sponsored by a huge company like Kangol Headwear. Then I ran into him several times after that day and in the summer of 2021 I saw a young man who looked very familiar and turned out to be his son Yusuke Vacant.

Yusuke is the youngest son of Kangol Kid and is navigating his way through the same industry as his dad did before him and leaves behind a legacy of hip hop dancing, rapper, producer and four kids to keep his memory alive through them.
I asked Yusuke about himself and he replied: He’s 28 and is the youngest boy of his fathers three sons. Kangol also has a beautiful young princess.

He said I have been making music since the age of 9. He grew up knowing his father was a legend because he wouldn’t let us forget but it really was stamped when I realized his 2nd album fell to number 2 on the Billboards to Michael Jackson. Yusuke said get ready for the Vacant Hotel Album which is streaming on all digital platforms and The S.O.H.O. Playlist is releasing early this year in 2022. Again it was my honor and a privilege to have met and interviewed father and son. Rest In Peace Shaun Shiller Fequiere aka Kangol 8/10/66-12/18/2021.
